Prepare Your Home For Spring!

It's starting to feel a lot like spring in Northeast New Jersey and if you're anything like me you are really excited about it! It's about time to ditch our boots for sandals and start spending lots more time outside.

However, before we get all caught up in outdoor parties and warm weather fun, it is important to take care of one of the things that are most important to us and our families, that is, our homes.

It is a great time to start thinking about and planning the changes you will make to your home's landscape this spring, but what is more important is to think about is checking your interior systems. We should be checking our interior HVAC (Heating, Venting, Air Conditioning) systems each fall and spring. Before harsh climate changes occur, ensure air filters have been replaced and cleaned as well as changed. If you use disposable air filters make sure to stock up on new ones. Check your air conditioner during the spring season as well to make sure it is functioning effectively and safely before the summer.

In the process of spring cleaning, you should also make sure to clear out any debris, dust or clutter that could be a fire hazard. Test your emergency systems, fire extinguishes, fire alarms, and carbon monoxide detectors. We can so often forget to test these until it is too late, and spring cleaning is the perfect time to do so!

So what else will you be doing to ready your home for spring? Let us know by commenting below!

A Busy Morning for NJ Firefighters!

This President's day was a busy one for firefighters in two different towns in New Jersey. The brave men and women of Newark, Elizabeth and Hoboken Fire departments spent the morning working to put out an apartment building fire in Hoboken. This particular fire began last night around 7PM but firefighters were still battling the flames on the building's roof until early this morning. It was declared a four alarm fire and tore through the five floors of the building which includes store fronts on ground level and condos above them.

In nearby Jersey City, the fire department was just as busy. Last night, a five alarm fire ravaged through a two story, wood framed building. FoxNY reports, FoxNY reports, "they were not sure how many residents were displaced, but said the property had six to eight second floor residential units. The fire was declared undercontrol around 7:45pm. No cause has been determined".

Nine firefighters were injured in the process of putting out the blaze. We at Paul Davis Restoration of Northeast NJ extend our warmest get well wishes to them and their families!

Paul Davis Restoration Sponsors Fundraiser for St. Barnabas Burn Center

Late last month, Paul Davis Restoration was the proud sponsor of the "Cooked and Uncorked" Wine Festival held at Pines Manor in Edison, NJ. The event was an awesome night of food and fun in which 12 fire departments from across New Jersey came together to showcase their talents in the kitchen!

This event was quite a bit different than your average fire deparment chili or barbecue cook off. This time around, the firefighters kicked it up a notch by trying their hand at upscale, gourmet fare. The firefighters cooked up gourmet meals like shrimp and scallop napoleon with avocado, sourcream and pepper with a cocktail shrimp on top (trust, us it tasted as good as it sounds!)

The big winners of the night were Roselle Fire Department (Overall) and New Brunswick Fire Department who won "Fan Favorite". We were so impressed by the great turnout of 850-900 people who came to support St. Barnabas burn center. It was a memorable night filled with great food and great company!
