-Make sure to keep chimneys and fireplaces clean. Have your chimney or wood burning stove inspected by a certified chimney specialist.
-Keep the area near the fireplace clear of decorum, debris and flammable materials
- Leave glass doors open while a fire is burning so that there is enough air to ensure complete combustion. Don't forget to close the doors once the fire is out to keep ash from getting into the room.
-Never use flammable liquids to start a fire.
-Always use only seasoned hardwood. Soft moist wood speeds up creosote buildup.
-Never burn cardboard boxes, trash or debris in indoor fireplaces.
-Never leave a fireplace unattended. Always put out all fires before gong to bed or leaving your home.
